When Medterra first started, we wanted to bring CBD to everyone. But as we’ve grown as a company, as a team, and as a diverse group of individuals, we realized that that isn’t enough. For us, CBD is about reducing the stress and discomfort that life brings, and in doing so, learning to embrace our true selves – the versions of us that can so often get buried underneath the difficult realities of everyday life.
In the spirit of Pride Month, we would like to announce that we are launching a partnership with True Colors United, an organization that supports and advocates for LGBTQ+ youth and youth of color who are experiencing homelessness.
True Colors United is working to create a world in which every LGBTQ+ young person, wherever they live, is celebrated for being their authentic selves. LGBTQ+ youth have a 120% higher risk of experiencing homelessness – which often is the result of family rejection or discrimination based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.
Research shows that up to 40% of the homeless youth population is LGBTQ+, a large disparity from their representation in the general population. These young people have unique needs like identity and transition-related support that not all providers have the knowledge or resources to assist with.
By providing training and education programs to communities and service providers, advocating on the local, state, and federal levels, and collaborating with youth action programs, True Colors United is working to prevent youth homelessness.
