What is CBD Cream and how is it useful?
CBD comes in many forms: tinctures, capsules and edible treats, just to name a few, but another way that it can be found is in topical CBD cream form. A lotion or cream that has been infused with CBD can be just what you’re looking for. Many people have found the benefits of CBD in cream form, already, and are touting its possibilities. In a report from The Arthritis Foundation, over 2,500 patients suffering from arthritis were asked to submit answers regarding CBD. 79% of those surveyed had stated that they have considered using, or already used, CBD to treat their arthritis pain. 29% of those said that they currently use the natural compound for their arthritis symptoms and, of those who currently utilize CBD, over half were using topical CBD creams. In a recent Gallup Poll, 8% of those over 65 years of age that were surveyed admitted to utilizing CBD products. In America, that means about 4 million American seniors have taken the cannabidiol leap. One of those people is Eileen Donovan of Massacheusets. Donovan, who admits to using a CBD based lotion, told U.S. News and World Report that she suffers with Osteoarthritis and applies topical CBD to her joints “twice per day.”  Donovan, who found she has an allergy to typical over-the-counter NSAID pain relievers, touted the benefits of using a topical, saying, “I’ll put it on and walk away and think, ‘I don’t have any pain’.”

How is this possible?

Matthew Halpert, a professor of immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, states: “Reliable topical CBD products don’t just mask pain or inflammation, as some over-the-counter topical pain relief creams do. They actually can make the pain go away for a certain time period.”  He continues to explain that this happens “because of the high concentration of cannabinoid receptors on the skin.” Cannabinoid receptors are those that are a part of your body’s own endocannabinoid system (ECS). Every person has this system in their body that is aligned with the Central Nervous System, and cannabinoids play with it.  [Read more about the Endocannabinoid System] Aside from the seniors, many of those who are involved in the specialty of skin, itself, have also chimed in with their thoughts. Jeanette Jacknin, a board-certified dermatologist in California, spoke on this subject with the American Academy of Dermatology Association, stating, “We’ve learned a great deal about the dermatologic applications of cannabis over the past several years, and we’re continually learning more.” She added that, knowing of the plant’s anti-inflammatory properties, “there may be potential for topical cannabis to improve conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema by reducing the inflammation associated with these diseases.” The studies are still being conducted on CBD, the skin and how topical applications of the products can help people going forward. Dr. Halpert, however, agrees with Dr. Jackin’s findings as he has been working with Medterra and Baylor College of Medicine to discover more applications of this hemp-grown organic ingredient. In his own research work, he said that, “CBD is able to turn down the production of inflammatory markers”. Dr Halpert goes on to explain that these markers are “made in overabundance by people who have conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.” If you’re considering taking the leap into CBD based care in topical form, all experts agree that it is important to research who you purchase your CBD products from.
